6th Annual Penrose Pride Parade!

Come march in the 6th Annual Penrose Pride Parade co-sponsored by the Penrose Neighborhood Association and Equality Arlington on Sunday, June 28th at 1 PM! The parade will start at Butler-Holmes Park in the Penrose neighborhood. Please put on your favorite pride attire, grab your rainbow flag, make a sign about equality, tune up your tambourine, polish your red wagon, pull on your tutu—however you choose to celebrate! All are welcome to participate!

Join Equality Arlington on Tuesday, June 30th at 6:30 PM at Clarendon Presbyterian Church (1305 North Jackson Street, Arlington, VA) for an LGBTQ+ Town Hall with representatives from the Arlington County Board, School Board, and Arlington’s delegation to the Virginia General Assembly. LGBTQ+ Movie Screening and Arlington Pride Month Party!

Equality Arlington and the National Landing BID are co-sponsoring a LGBTQ+ movie screening on Saturday, June 6 beginning at 3 PM at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema followed by a Pride Month Party at National Landing Water Park from 6-9 PM. Both events are free and first-come-first-serve (although we encourage you to RSVP to held us prepare) and open to all.

  • Saturday, June 6th: 3 PM - 5:20 PM - Screening of "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar" at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Crystal City (1660 Crystal Dr, Arlington, VA 22202). RSVP for the screening of "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar" HERE.

Arlington Trans Youth Quilt Unveiling & Reception

Please join Equality Arlington and Arlington Public Libraries for the unveiling of the Arlington Trans Youth Quilt on Wednesday, April 8 at 6 PM at Arlington Central Library in the auditorium. Attendees will hear from speakers, see the quilt assembled from dozens of squares made by transgender and non-binary young people, watch a short video, and enjoy food and refreshments.

Trans Youth Quilt Project Assembly Day

Join Equality Arlington and the Arlington Community Foundation as for our Trans Youth Quilt Project Assembly Day on Saturday, March 7 from 1-4 PM at Clarendon Presbyterian Church. Community members and allies are invited to help stitch together quilt squares made by local trans youth expressing their "freedom to be" while listening to the experiences of trans community members. Snacks will be provided! Equality Arlington has been working on a Trans Youth Quilt Project to give trans youth a safe and joyful way of being seen and provide an opportunity to build community and awareness in the broader community through a collaborative creation process. Rally 4 Trans Students!

Please join Equality Arlington and the Arlington Gender Identity Alliance for a rally on 8/21 before the School Board meeting to show our support for protecting transgender students! The rally will begin at 6:15 PM and take place in the grass in front of the Syphax Education Center, 2110 Washington Blvd, Arlington VA. Following the rally, we will head to the 2nd floor for the School Board meeting at 7 PM to show our appreciation for the School Board and public comment speakers who support our transgender students. If you would like to speak at public comment, you will be able to enter a lottery for speakers from 6:15 PM - 6:45 PM outside the School Board room on the 2nd floor. Please bring your homemade signs and we will provide trans flags for attendees.

Virtual Event: Know Your Rights: LGBTQ+ Protections Under Attack

Equality Arlington is hosting "Know Your Rights: LGBTQ+ Protections Under Attack," a virtual event on Tuesday, April 22 at 6:30 PM ET with speakers from the ACLU-VA and HOME of Virginia to discuss recent attacks on the LGBTQ+ community, especially transgender and nonbinary individuals. Wyatt Rolla, ACLU of Virginia’s Senior Transgender Rights Attorney, and Mike Pruitt, Staff Attorney at Housing Opportunities Made Equal (HOME) of Virginia, will talk about the status of rights and protections for LGBTQ+ individuals in Virginia.

LGBTQ+ Townhall

Equality Arlington is hosting a LGBTQ+ Townhall for LGBTQ+ residents and allies to hear about local and state efforts to protect the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. Many members of the LGBTQ+ community have been feeling increased anxiety after the results of the November election. Come to Clarendon Presbyterian Church (1305 N Jackson St, Arlington, VA 22201) on Monday, December 2nd at 6:30 PM to hear from elected leaders and ask your questions. The following elected leaders will be speaking at the Townhall:

  • Senator Barbara Favola, Virginia Senate

  • Senator Adam Ebbin, Virginia Senate

  • Mauren Coffey, Arlington County Board

  • Bethany Zecher Sutton, Arlington School Board

We will also provide updates on Equality Arlington's continued advocacy work and discuss ways for supporters to get involved in protecting LGBTQ+ rights and working to address the needs of LGBTQ+ residents.
