Equality Arlington’s Advocacy Priorities

Improve healthcare access and services for LGBTQ+ residents especially transgender residents
Empower and support LGBTQ+ youth in Arlington Public schools and in the community
Expand Arlington County’s services focused on LGBTQ+ resident needs
Create physical space for LGBTQ+ residents of all ages to gather and build community
Increase LGBTQ+ cultural representation throughout our community

🗳️Early voting ends on NOV 1st (Election Day is NOV 4th) and this election will have direct impacts on the health, safety, and welfare of LGBTQ+ residents in Arlington! 🏳️‍🌈We have the opportunity to elect a Governor, Lt. Equality Arlington has been clear that the county must do more to enforce anti-discrimination laws protecting LGBTQ+ residents and workers in housing, in the workplace, in public, and in school. The next Director of the Office of Human Rights will determine if the county prioritizes anti-discrimination enforcement at a time when the federal government has all but abandoned it and our civil rights.

🚨Equality Arlington condemns Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears’ anti-LGBTQ+ remarks during the gubernatorial debate last night. Earle-Sears said firing workers for being gay and denying a marriage license to a same-sex couple do not constitute discrimination—despite both being illegal under Virginia law. We are also appalled by her continued attacks on the very existence of transgender individuals in our commonwealth. We call on the Lt. Governor, and all candidates running for state-wide office, to denounce discrimination, as defined by Virginia law, against all people.
